Hi James. You will be able to get 4K @ 60Hz and 8K @ 30Hz with current cables when connected to the HDMI 2.1 ports on the LG C9 65 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (64.5'' Diag), Model # OLED65C9PUA, but for increased resolutions and higher frame rates, you will need an Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable. Most current HDMI cables can handle nearly all of today's content. HDMI 2.1 is predominantly for people who will want to send their 4K TVs native 120 fps or 8k TVs 60 FPS material. Personal computers and high-end gaming rigs are the only current sources that can output 4K at more than 60fps. The Xbox One X can do 120fps, but only at lower resolutions and therefore doesn't require HDMI 2.1. Other than gaming, there's basically no current content that requires the bandwidth of HDMI 2.1

It is not that the LG C9 55 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (54.6'' Diag), Model # OLED55C9PUA or any other TV for that matter, cannot be mounted above a fireplace. The practice of mounting a TV over a fireplace has somehow become extremely popular in the U.S. What you need to consider before making the decision to mount it above a fireplace is Electronics don’t care for heat, and they care for smoke even less. Particulate from the fire can build up and cover the components inside the TV causing the heat generated by the TV to build up. The TV has an optimal operating temperature of between 0 °C to 40 °C (32 °F to 104 °F).

Beyond that, excessive heat can cause temperature-sensitive materials to degrade quickly, and conductive materials can even sprout little metal whiskers, causing shorts within the TVs circuitry. If you're not using the fireplace, then that not an issue. The other thing you need to consider is how high above the ideal level the TV will be installed above your fireplace.

Placing it above a fireplace moves the image you’re trying to watch well above eye level. That could put you in an uncomfortable position where you're having to crane your neck which could result in headaches or neck aches due to poor posture. You can always get a mount that allows you to angle the TV down towards your viewing angle to accommodate for this. So it is not that you can't mount the TV over a fireplace, you just have to consider a few things before making the decision...^

I have bought 2016 65 inch LG OLED TV on December, 2016. In less than 3 years’ normal use (3-5 hrs/day, HDR mode), everything showing on the screen is shifted to the green spectrum. This is well discussed OLED screen burn-in problem (display would shift to either green, or red color). I knew it could be an issue after a few years’ use.

But I didn’t fully realize how bad it will be until it happens. Now I know how bad it is, and want to let potential buyers know that it will be a really serious problem, failing your investment on TV. Plz reconsider if you want buy OLED TV unless the manufacturers resolve the screen burn-in issue.

I went to BestBuy in Miami over the Easter Weekend and a buddy of mine who works there showed me the new C9 series from LG. I already own a C7 and that has one of the best pictures of any TV I have ever owned.
I was now in the market for another TV for the bedroom to replace my aging Panasonic Plasma. I looked at several other TVs that interested me which included the Sony A9F OLED and I have to say it was close but the C9 was just a hair better. Anyway long story short I ended up buying the C9.

Ok so if you own the C7 or C8 (both use the same screen) the picture quality on the C9 while viewing a slow moving or still image will not look any different from the older models. What you are really paying for is the faster processor and how well it handles fast moving images and cleans up artifacts and does upscaling.
This is where I could really see the difference. I put on a few high bit rate 4K Demo Files (580MB for 90 seconds of video) and played them back through an Nvidia Shield TV and I could see much better blending and motion handling and even the colors looked better. It's ability to upscale 1080P was better than my C7 and was very impressive. Once again though old SD 480 video was not all that great. It is better than the C7 but you really cannot get a good pic from something that low in resolution.

The C9 is also a lot thinner than the C7 and IMO the C9 is almost now getting to the point of being ridiculously thin, so thin I was really worried it might break when setting it up. I do like the metalized backing on the screen, it looks and feels like high quality material and its a nice touch by LG.

The stand is not all that much different than the C7 and neither is most of the input layouts. I understand it has the newer HDMI 2.1 Ports but for me that did not make much of a difference in my decision. I hooked it up to my Directv C61K 4K Client and tested it out on channel 104 and the picture was darn good. I used a few UHD Blurays including my favorite test videos and they all looked fantastic.

Overall I would say if you have the C7 or C8 and Do Not play video games on the TV and don't use the TV apps but use an external device like the Firestick, Roku or NVIDIA shield you really do not need to upgrade just yet, the picture quality is better but not by a factor that would make me jump out and change my C7 or a C8.
If you don't fit into that category or you have an even older model TV then I think this is a really good choice to upgrade to. If it's anything like my C7 which I am sure it is then you really do not need to worry about burn in unless you do something incredibly stupid like leaving a static image on the screen for 10 hours. I have never had any burn in issues with my C7 so I expect this TV to be the same.

I highly recommend it and must say that LG has once again created another master piece.
My LG OLED is 4 months old and has a bright blue dot in the center of the screen. It’s very distracting. LG will not fix it under warranty, as it is within their quality specifications. I’ve had a very poor experience with their customer service, who send me links to rate customer service rather than a trouble ticket number so I can upload pictures to their warranty department.
LG has done it again with OLED C9 series TV - it is one of the best TVs currently on the market! Last year it was LG’s C8 OLED TV and one would not think that there was any way to improve it and make it better, however LG engineers had a lot to offer and made OLED C9 series stand out once again
. I thought I would never say that, but I find this TV almost perfect in its design and function. First of all, I’ll throw some technical terms out there: HDMI 2.1, eARC, Variable Refresh Rate , HDR10 - all these are new upgrades and best of all, they futureproof this TV for the years to come.
LG also improved and upgraded its Alpha 9 to Gen 2 processor which is responsible for image processing with the help of AI (artificial intelligence) as well as AI enabled sound improvements and even its smart functions are being AI analyzed (WebOS with ThinQ AI). Basically, all the above mentioned features make this TV produce superb image quality, amazing quality sound and ease of use in navigation whether you are you switching inputs or changing something in the Settings.
I believe these are pretty important things as we are all looking for these features when buying a new TV. I am also impressed by the aesthetics, i.e. design of this TV: it has a very thin OLED panel that is supported by a pretty hefty stand that gives me a lot of confidence that this TV is very stable (last year model, not so much).
Even the back panel looks very clean and has cable management system to make it all tidy. The stand itself with its angled edges does not protrude a lot and functions as a virtual 5.1 surround sound distributor as the speakers are located right above it, and man does this TV sound great! As I mentioned earlier, its WebOS has been improved and is easy to maneuver around, all your Apps, inputs are intelligently organized. To make it even easier to navigate menus, LG gives you their Magic Remote. Its rubbery button layout is nice and has Netflix, Amazon Prime Video devoted buttons to start up your movies.
The Mic button activates Google Assistant and with the help of voice commands you can change channels, turn your TV off, check weather - the sky is your limit. And if you like Amazon Alexa, LG will be bringing an update later on to enable the assistant. Also support for Apple AirPlay 2 is coming later this year too. All in all, LG OLED C9 is an outstanding TV with superb PQ, pure blacks, popping colors, excellent off angle viewing, crisp sound and simply an engineering beauty.
